History of Methamphetamines/Amphetamines

One source states that amphetamines were invented first, around 1887, then methamphetamines not until 1917 by a man in Japan. I don't know how true this information is but we'll go with it for now. Also these drugs are man made, I mean, they don't derive from a plant like cocaine or opium. So, by using science and chemistry these drugs were and are still being made.

What Is Illegal?

This information will help explain why people are getting arrested for using substances that are most often not illegal. To add different ingredients to any recipe whether it be food or meth you are creating a new recipe or invention, am I right? Of course I am. Most recipes contain ephedrine so I think one of the main reasons people are instantly becoming paranoid is because they think they are breaking the law but they really aren't. A cop can't tell you that you are breaking the law by possessing something that he doesn't know what it is. Most likely if you are still using street stimulants that you think are illegal methamphetamines most likely you are wrong. Methamphetamines don't contain ephedrine or red phosphorous or lithium or iodine.

DO YOU GET WHAT I AM SAYING YET?

Without giving exact recipes, the molecular formula for methamphetamines is C10H15NO and amphetamines is C9H13N. If you are not too familiar with chemistry don't worry I'm not either, so I'll try to keep it in English. An important thing to know is that if just one of those C's is taken away or added to then the substance is no longer the same.
My point is to keep in mind that there are many ways to make alike stimulant drugs therefore many different versions exist but only two are illegal to possess or are controlled which are methamphetamines and amphetamines.

The Drugs' Uses

Initial uses for methamphetamines/amphetamines:

Initially the drug was used to treat nasal decongestion or sinus blockage and narcolepsy.

Official and Current Uses:

Narcolepsy, ADHD and Obesity.

Other Uses:

Some of the drug's other accumulated uses over time include but aren't limited to Depression, Fatigue, Alertness, Treatment of Heroin Addiction, A Replacement For Happiness, Forget Painful Memories, the list goes on and on just ask any meth addict.

As An Immune System Booster

Methamphetamines/amphetamines boost the immune system, when used correctly, by killing bacteria, fungi and viruses that cause the diseases that our immune system's are constantly battling each day. The chemicals that make meth are strong enough to kill these unwanted organisms that reside inside our bodies. I explain this better on the "Connecting Stuff" page of this website.

"STIMULANTS ARE THE DRUGS MOST FREQUENTLY PRESCRIBED FOR ADHD IN THE HOPE OF CONTROLLING BEHAVIORS DESCRIBED AS HYPERACTIVITY, IMPULSIVITY, AND INATTENTION. WITH THEIR CHEMICAL NAMES IN PARENTHESES, THE DRUGS INCLUDE:

  • RITALIN (METHYLPHENIDATE)
  • CONCERTA AND METADATE (LONGER-ACTING PREPARATIONS OF METHYLPHENIDATE)
  • DEXIDRINE AND DEXTROSTAT (DEXTROAMPHETAMINE, ALSO CALLED D-AMPHETAMINE)
  • ADDERALL (A MIXTURE OF AMPHETAMINE AND D-AMPHETAMINE)
  • DESOXYN (METHAMPHETAMINE)
  • GRUDAMET (A LONGER-ACTING PREPARATION OF METHAMPHETAMINE)
  • CYLERT (PEMOLINE)
....RITALIN AND THE AMPHETAMINES CAN FOR MOST PURPOSES BE CONSIDERED ONE TYPE OF DRUG."
-DR. PETER BREGGIN "TALKING BACK TO RITALIN"

"IT WAS FOUND THAT METHYLPHENIDATE'S (Ritalin)PHARMALOGICAL EFFECTS ARE ESSENTIALLY THE SAME AS THOSE OF AMPHETAMINE AND METHAMPHETAMINE AND THAT IT SHARES THE SAME ABUSE POTENTIAL AS THESE SCHEDULE 2 STIMULANTS." -DEA (1995C)

"THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION CONCLUDED THAT RITALIN, AMPHETAMINE (DEXIDRINE), AND METHAMPHETAMINE WERE SIMILAR AMONG THEMSELVES AND TO COCAINE IN THEIR ABUSE PATTERNS. IN 1971 IT PLACED RITALIN ALONG WITH OTHER STIMULANT DRUGS IN SCHEDULE 2- THE MOST ADDICTIVE DRUGS IN MEDICAL USAGE: "METHYLPHENIDATE (RITALIN), DUE TO IT'S HIGH ABUSE POTENTIAL, WAS ONE OF THE FIRST SUBSTANCES TO BE PLACED UNDER INTERNATIONAL CONTROL IN SCHEDULE 2 OF THE 1971 CONVENTION ON PSYCHOTROPIC SUBSTANCES."

-DR. PETER BREGGIN, "TALKING BACK TO RITALIN"

What does this information mean? Many things can be taken from this information, of which, there are drugs being prescribed to children and adults that are called methamphetamines(Ritalin) and amphetamines(Aderral) that have the same effects to the human body as street methamphetamines and amphetamines. This also means that, other than being known as stimulants, the DEA classifies Ritalin(methamphetamines), street methamphetamines, cocaine and amphetamines(Aderral) in the same category(as schedule 2 drugs). These four drugs are similar in that they are high bases on the ph scale. The higher a chemical registers on the ph scale the better it serves as an anti-biotic and an immune system enhancer. That's right, Methamphetamines(Ritalin), amphetamines(Aderral), cocaine, street methamphetamines help our immune system in fighting diseases. As recently discovered by a Dr. Cornelia Lass-Floerl of Innsbruck, Austria and her colleagues, in clinical trials (lab tests), amphetamines along with some anti-depressants (Prozac, Sertraline and Paroxetine), called SSRI's, can be used as anti-biotics due to their anti-microbial activity.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=10773485&dopt=Abstract Since amphetamines have anti-biotic qualities then methamphetamines should as well. Cocaine, Ritalin(Methamphetamine), Aderral(Amphetamine) and all other prescription methamphetamines and amphetamines should show the same anti-biotic and anti-microbial activity thus be considered immune system helpers. Ritalin(methamphetamine) and Aderral(amphetamine) are two of the most popular drugs that are being prescribed to patients that are assumed affected by ADD/ADHD. Although studied since the 1950's, behavioral disorders related to ADD/ADHD (related in their treatment methods) are still not fully understood. It is also unknown exactly how these potentially dangerous stimulants help in fixing these disorders. It is my belief that the high chemical ph in the drugs is responsible for balancing the chemical imbalance that exists inside of these patients/people. Is it dangerous to use trial and error methods on patients with such dangerous drugs? It can be, but with all due respect to the medical world this is the best method, currently, when it comes to treating ADD/ADHD patients. A combination of the drugs along with regular counseling is actually the most recommended method. Starting at lower doses and gradually increasing is how they start when administering the drugs to the patients. Something that caught my attention in all this is that those people out there that have been using illegal forms of methamphetamines, amphetamines, cocaine and other stimulants are only guilty of trying to medicate themselves for a possible unknown illness or condition that exist inside their bodies (whether they're aware of it or not). When a person self-administers or uses drugs, without a prescription, the act is called self-medicating. By self-medicating people run the risk of being arrested, if the drug is illegal, or hurting themselves by overdosing. Many people don't know that the drugs they are using have an equivalent that can usually be found at a pharmacy, with a prescription of course. It's true, heroin's equivalent is the drug Oxycontin, they have THC pills for marijuana and with a prescription in California one can actually buy marijuana. With methamphetamines Ritalin, Desoxyn, Grudamet, Concerta are just a few drug equivalents which are usually crushed up and snorted through the nose. Street methamphetamines are usually used by adults and prescription methamphetamines are usually prescribed to children. The current world view of the word methamphetamines, from my perspective in Sacramento, is bad and mostly negative because of how it can take over an addicts life. Am I right? However, how many people know that methamphetamines are given to people everyday to help them. My thought is to give prescription methamphetamines to addicts craving each day which would extinguish their bodies desire to want to go out and get hi on the street stuff. Kind of like they do with methadone for heroin addicts. Everyday the heroin addict is physically craving the drug, so by giving them a daily dose of a similar drug to heroin (Methadone) the craving is satisfied. I know, who wants to take some pill everyday just to satisfy a craving? Well, if that pill could help you in a variety of ways in your life ,then, it could be worth it. As far as self-medication goes we do it much more than we think. Aspirin, Excedrin, Sudafed take your pick ,legal or not, we're all guilty of taking more or less than the recommended dosage. By thinking we know how much of the drug to take, we instantly become doctors and take what we want. The problem with street drugs, say marijuana, there is no recommended dosage. Right? So we experiment with the drug by putting it inside our bodies and using the trial and error method until we're happy with the way we feel. However, the significance with methamphetamines and amphetamines is that in the form of Ritalin or Aderral the prescription is indefinite. This means that the doctor and patient are working together to find a dosage that best suits the patient over a period of time. If they want to stop taking the drugs at any particular time they can. This is true with all medication, it's the doctors recommendation but the patients responsibility to take them. Now as far as the dosages of methamphetamines (Ritalin) or amphetamines (Aderral) these medications are measured in milligrams per pill. When they find a comfortable dosage, in milligrams, they stick with it as a daily routine. Prescription drugs are accurate and consistent in both strength and amount. Why would doctors give their patients dangerous methamphetamines or amphetamines? Wouldn't it hurt them? Well, to answer the first question, because they work. As I said earlier, doctors have been using methamphetamines and amphetamines on children with behavior problems (disorders) since the 1950's. Thats over 50 years of experimenting I would think that if it didn't work they would have stopped trying by now. It's true, these drugs have been an effective treatment for these troubled kids in the past and as a result of these studies we now have the labels ADD/ADHD. Over the years doctors have found accurate dosages by using the trial and error method even though each patient requires a different dosage. However street methamphetamines are being used with inconsistency, abuse and excessiveness by people everyday which is causing countless problems. Too much use of methamphetamines or amphetamines, with a prescription or not, can be dangerous to anyone. The key is to use low and consistent dosages. Are methamphetamine addicts using methamphetamines because they have an undiagnosed form of ADD/ADHD? This is a good question and could be true. People that get easily addicted to methamphetamines or amphetamines probably have a chemical imbalance inside their bodies that is being temporarily fixed by the drugs. They should use methaphetamines or amphetamines with consistency and responsibility which would probably help them in their everyday lives. Using street methamphetamines cosistently and responsibly is a very difficult task for many reasons. First, responsible and illegal don't go together. Next, street methamphetamine users are thinking with each use that they are doing wrong. By using an illegal drug a person is breaking the law and can go to jail, right?. With these thoughts running through their minds causes paranoia. Already the user is at a disadvantage because he/she would probably never think that the drug could be helping them if their own government is saying it is illegal to use. As kids we are told that "Drugs are bad" So, how can a bad thing help us? Well as a prescription they can help us. The pharmaceutical industry is a billion dollar business because people are using them. Using them a lot. It's only recently being discovered that daily use of certain drugs can help people. As a result of wanting quick fixes to our problems drugs are usually used or prescribed to us. Why? Because they work so well. They do something chemically inside us that our body responds to in a positive way. If it were hurting us then our bodies would respond in a negative way. If we are suffering from an inner pain and we use a certain drug, if the pain is temporarily alleviated or healed then that's a good thing. The less we feel pain or bad, negative feelings the better off we feel we are. In conclusion, I feel that if used consistently and at correct dosages drugs, including methamphetamines and amphetamines, can be helpful to a person's everyday life.
